Atlantic Coaches Seminar in Wolfville, Nova Scotia

The Sport and Recreation Division of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic is offering Island coaches financial support to assist them in attending the 2003 Atlantic Coaches Seminar at Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, May 16-19.

"Coaches play a critical role in both the social and athletic development of young Islanders," says the Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs. "We are pleased to be able to assist coaches in participating in this worthwhile conference and contributing to their personal and professional advancement."

This year's conference will offer Level three NCCP theory and Level three technical courses in basketball, figure skating, swimming and volleyball. NCCP Level two technical courses will be offered for athletics, throws and sprints, badminton, cycling, mountain biking, field hockey and rugby. The seminar will also offer two Level four tasks, numbers six and 19.

On May 16, the conference will feature several community conference sessions, including Building a Business in Coaching, Peaking Physically for Performance and Women Warriors: A Panel Session.

Several high performance seminars designed for certified coaches offering practical advice will be offered by Tim McGarrigle, presenter for basketball; Softball's Mark Smith who is the coach of the national mens' team; and Andrew Cole from the National Swim Centre Atlantic Canada will present a session to swim coaches.

The deadline for early registration is April 18th and the conference registration deadline is May 2.
