ArtsSmarts Proposals Being Accepted for Upcoming School Year

* Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]
For the seventh year, Prince Edward Island school teachers and students will be able to participate in the ArtsSmarts program which enables students and teachers to work closely with Island artists in their classroom.

“These projects make learning fun for students and they help them to discover their strengths and interests,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Doug Currie. “We are grateful to all those creative thinkers who initiate new learning opportunities by integrating arts into the curriculum.”

ArtsSmarts brings students, educators and artistic communities together to nurture creative thinkers and foster an appreciation for the arts. The 2010-2011 project intention proposals can now be submitted jointly by teachers and artists for review.

“I am pleased my department is able to support an initiative that allows our Island artists to contribute to the artistic development of our Island students as well as develop an increased appreciation for the arts,” said Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.

Teachers in collaboration with Island artists are eligible to apply. The deadline for the submission of project intentions is October 30, 2010.
