Artisans and Craftspeople Invite you to Island-Wide Open House

The Seventh Annual Studio Tour Weekend September 23-25 promises to be the best one yet. 50 Prince Edward Island artisans and craftspeople will open their shops and studios for hands-on demonstrations. In addition, visitors will not have to pay the provincial sales tax on purchases of Island-made art, craft and giftware during the weekend.

“I encourage Islanders and visitors alike to take advantage of this opportunity to explore the Island through the beautiful works of our culturally diverse artists and craftspeople,” said Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. “The Government of Prince Edward Island continues to support this vibrant industry through initiatives such as The Studio Tour Weekend. This event gives our local craftspeople an opportunity to showcase their quality product and services to Islanders and tourists.”

Be sure to pick up a copy of the 2005 Tour Guide and Map located at any PEI Visitor Information Centre to assist you with your tour. Each site will be clearly marked with colorful balloons and signs.

“Shoppers will be able to save the provincial sales tax on all purchases of Island- made art, craft and giftware at participating studios and shops,” said Marie Walsh, craft project coordinator with PEI Business Development. “This is a great weekend to shop and support our Island artisans and craftspeople. I encourage you to get out and see all the new Island products available and rediscover old favorites during this exciting weekend event.”
