Appointment of Director of Racing for Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission

The Council of Maritime Premiers is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Richard Paruch to the position of Director of Racing of the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission (MPHRC), effective February 1, 2001. Mr. Paruch was appointed following an extensive search and interview process.

Mr. Paruch is from Sydney, Nova Scotia, and has most recently held the position of E-file Coordinator, Access to Information Officer and Office Training Coordinator for Revenue Canada Customs, Excise and Tax in Sydney, and has served in a number of positions with that department since 1982.

Mr. Paruch has been involved in the Maritime harness racing industry since 1988 as a Presiding, Associate and Paddock Judge, as well as a Starter. Prior to 1988, he drove and trained standardbred race horses at Tartan Downs in Sydney and at Northside Downs in North Sydney. Mr. Paruch is well respected within the industry for his integrity as a judge, as well as for his commitment to the sport of harness racing.

The MPHRC was established on April 1, 1994 to govern, supervise, control, and regulate harness racing and racetracks in the Maritime provinces, and operates out of Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
