Applications being processed for PEI Home Renovation Programs

* Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]
About 500 applications for the PEI Home Renovation Programs have been received to date and are being processed on a first-come, first-served basis, says Community Services and Seniors Minister Valerie E. Docherty.

“We are pleased to have been able to implement these valuable programs in the fall,” said Minister Docherty. “Based on the successful response rate, it is obvious that Islanders recognize the benefits, and although we won't be able to address all applications during this fiscal year, another round will happen in the 2014/2015 year.”

Due to the overwhelming response, no further applications will be accepted during this fiscal year for the Home Renovation Program, the Person’s With Disabilities Home Renovation Program or the Emergency Home Repair Program. All Islanders who have applied for funding will receive a letter indicating the status of their application.

Applications are still being accepted for the Seniors’ Home Repair Program, which helps low-income seniors make necessary repairs to their principal residence. For information on this program, call toll free 1-888-831-8880 or go to www.gov.pe.ca/go/housing.

Islanders with a total household income of $35,000 or less can apply to the Home Energy Low-Income Program (HELP) through the Office of Energy Efficiency. Under this program, a tradesperson will complete comprehensive air-sealing (caulking and weather-stripping on windows and doors) free of charge.

The PEI Home Renovation Program is a component of the $3 million Investment in Affordable Housing 2011- 2014 Agreement between the governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island, which was announced in April 2013.
