Annual Paper Hearts fundraiser begins at PEI Liquor outlets

PEI Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) will again partner with the Heart and Stroke Foundation-PEI to support the annual Paper Hearts campaign during Heart Month in February.

The fundraiser will run in all 18 PEILCC corporate retail outlets across the province from February 1 through to February 29.

“We are delighted to partner with the PEI Liquor Control Commission for the fifth consecutive year,” said Charlotte Comrie, Chief Executive Officer, PEI, Heart and Stroke Foundation. “We appreciate their commitment to our mission through customer donations and in enhancing our ability to promote greater health awareness.”

Each $2 paper heart purchased at all 18 PEI Liquor retail outlets will be displayed in-store to showcase the community’s support. The PEILCC has raised more than $30,000 through the Paper Hearts campaign over the last four years.

“The PEILCC is pleased to continue a partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation that helps provide Islanders with programs and tools to live longer, healthier lives,” said Hon. Allen Roach, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “I’m sure the walls of our retail outlets will be covered in Paper Hearts this February thanks to the generosity of Islanders.”

“Over the Foundation’s 60-year history of funding research and helping Canadians to reduce their risk for cardiovascular disease, death rates from heart disease and stroke have declined by more than 75 per cent,” commented Comrie. “But with many lives still cut terribly short or compromised by these diseases, we are committed to creating more survivors on PEI, and we are grateful to our community partner, PEILLC for helping us to reach our mission goals.”
