Annual Conference For Film And Television To Be Held In PEI This June

* Economic Development [to Jul 1998]
"It seems like a movie," says Gretha Turner-Rose, President of the Canadian Screen Alliance (C.S.A.) and SeaHorse Films Inc., as she gets ready for the 2nd Annual Conference for Film and Television, to be held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

"Last year's Conference, called HOLLYWOOD NORTH, brought top Hollywood Power Players to town. The Conference was a raging success with contacts and deals made by many in attendance," says Rose. This year's Conference, entitled REEL PARTNERS, is even more exciting. "We have expanded our panel to showcase the world, with top producers and industry professionals from Canada, U.S., and the Pacific Rim." REEL PARTNERS is a major event exposing all in attendance to other producers, writers, directors, funders and talent from an International marketplace.

Where else would one hold such an event but on a tiny Island located halfway between Hollywood and Cannes. Rose says with a grin, "I consider us to be at the center of the Industry." Why not, when you look at the accomplishments in less than two years. "When I first started, I didn't know anything about film, and two years later, I deal with most of the major companies in Canada, New York and Hollywood. I even met with Oliver Stone the last time I was in L.A.," states Rose.

The C.S.A. is well established and represents top writers and producers from all over North America, and the newly formed SeaHorse Films Inc., with Rose and partner Larry LeClair, already has a five million-dollar feature in development, an animation series well underway and a pilot T.V. series about to be shot.

The REEL PARTNERS CONFERENCE will be held from June 20-22nd, with presenters Judy Holm, Director-PolyGram (PolyGram's Role in Canada/World); Sunmin Park, President-Max Media (Opportunities in the Pacific Rim); Pamela Wallace, Oscar winner for WITNESS (Adapting Book to Screen); Lawrie Rotenberg, President-The Talent Group (Changing Role of the Agent); Kathie Fong Yoneda, Senior Development Analyst-Paramount Pictures (Pitching a Home Run Project); Michael Morrissey, President-Renaissance Interactive (The New Game in Town); and Joel Roodman, President-Gotham Entertainment. In addition, producer panels, case studies, networking events and FUN!
