Today, Premier Robert Ghiz announced the appointment of Andrew Thompson to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Commission.
“Andrew Thompson is widely regarded for his dedication to building a strong public service for all Islanders,” said Premier Ghiz. “He is the ideal candidate to lead the coordination of human resources for our provincial public service.”
Mr. Thompson has been Acting CEO of the PSC since January 2013.
Biography
Andrew Thompson graduated with a Master of Public Administration (Management) Degree from Dalhousie University (’08) and also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Acadia University (’86) and a Certificate in Public Administration from UPEI (’95).
Andrew joined the PEI provincial government in 1986 and has held a number of supervisory, management and human resources roles within Child and Family Services, Correctional Services, Health PEI and the PEI Public Service Commission over his career with the provincial public service. Andrew also served as the Director of Human Resources for the City of Charlottetown from 2004-2009 before returning to the provincial government. He assumed Acting CEO responsibilities at the PEI Public Service Commission on January 29, 2013.
Andrew has been active within the broader HR community where he was a member of the Greater Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce Labour Force Committee, is a current member of the Holland College HR Program Advisory Committee and has been both the Vice Chair and Member at Large for the HR Association of Nova Scotia (HRANS). Andrew has held his Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation since 2004.
Andrew has three young adult children and resides in Charlottetown with his wife, Elaine.
