The Alpine ski hills at Brookvale are scheduled to open Saturday, January 8, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.
“The Nordic site for cross-country skiing has been open since New Year’s Day and we are excited to open the snowboarding and downhill ski hills this weekend,” he said. “Islanders will enjoy improved services and this great opportunity to enjoy winter.”
The Alpine hill features 11 Alpine trails which are serviced by three lifts, although not all runs may be open, depending on conditions. The Nordic site features 24.5 km of groomed recreational trails, 7.5 km of competitive and biathlon trails. There is also a complete rental shop, lodge, waxing huts, biathlon range and toboggan hill. Lessons in skiing and snowboarding also start on Saturday.
“Brookvale had a record season in 2010 and this year may be even better with improved locker facilities and the addition of new cashiers and terminals to help the rental process go smoothly,” said Minister Vessey.
Brookvale Provincial Ski Park is the only Alpine ski park on the Island. More information can be found at http://www.brookvaleskipark.com. Ski conditions and hours are available on the Brookvale Provincial Ski Park Facebook page.
