Island farmers are benefitting from programs and services delivered from the Agricultural Insurance Corporation’s new offices in Kensington, says Minister of Agriculture and Forestry George Webster.
“The relocation of the Agricultural Insurance Corporation is a reflection of government’s commitment to create new economic opportunities in rural communities across Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Webster. “The move transfers agricultural jobs into the heart of the farming community, providing services from a central location. It’s also saving government money as the corporation moves from a rented facility to a provincially-owned building.”
Staff of the Agricultural Insurance Corporation (AIC) are now operating out of a new head office in the former Potato Services Building in Kensington. Clients and the community were invited to tour the renovated facility during an open house. The AIC is a crown corporation that provides crop insurance and income support programs to farmers. There are approximately 42 permanent and casual employees, many of whom work in field positions. Programs are jointly funded by the federal and provincial governments.
“Agriculture is a key contributor to our economy, and government is committed to strong economic growth in the sector to benefit all of Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Webster. “I would like to thank all the employees of the Agricultural Insurance Corporation for their patience and hard work ensuring the move to Kensington was a smooth one, without any disruption to clients.”
