Aerospace Company Announces Major Expansion Plans

Wiebel Aerospace will add new machining centres and equipment as a result of increased demands from new and existing clients. Wiebel employs 62 people at its Summerside facility and with this expansion the company expects to add 90 new positions over the next three years.

Wiebel Aerospace was incorporated in 1995, following the acquisition of assets of Wiebel Tool Co. The company designs and manufactures a wide variety of high quality hydraulic assemblies and precision machined components for virtually every major commercial and military aircraft manufacturer.

“Wiebel Aerospace and its employees have proven to be very successful at penetrating the North American market and are now positioned for major global growth,” said the Honourable Joe McGuire, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “The Government of Canada is pleased to build upon its past support of the Prince Edward Island aerospace industry by providing additional investment which will allow Wiebel Aerospace to create even more jobs for Islanders.”

“Working with Wiebel Aerospace has been extremely beneficial for the province of Prince Edward Island,” said Premier Pat Binns. “Not only does Wiebel continue to surpass our growth expectations, but Wiebel very nicely illustrates just how well a company can prosper in a global and highly competitive marketplace like Prince Edward Island.”

Using high strength steels, and a variety of aluminum alloys, Wiebel Aerospace produces precision machined components and sub assemblies. All their work is custom made to meet the specific needs and exacting standards of their customers.

“Every one of Wiebel's skilled employees shares a total commitment to quality and customer satisfaction,” said Lindo Lapegna. “For all those individuals who may not be sure of what direction they would like to take in the future, they should consider the aerospace industry, as it offers challenging and rewarding career opportunities.”

Wiebel Aerospace is a certified DOT Repair Station (Certificate No. 6-94) and is registered under the Controlled Goods Registration Program (Reg. No. 020253). For more information, please visit their website at http://www.wiebel.ca.

The total cost of the expansion is approximately $3.1 million. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is providing a $500,000 repayable contribution through its Business Development Program. The Government of Prince Edward Island provided $974, 400.00 through its Innovation and Development Tax Credit Program.
