The Advisory Council on the Status of Women has released its Election 2000 Guide to the Issues. The Guide highlights issues that Council members consider important in their communities across PEI.
The Election Guide cannot address all issues concerning women on PEI, but the hope is that it will serve as a basis for further discussion. The aim of the publication is to encourage women to voice their ideas and concerns and ask candidates and their parties to make political commitments to improve the quality of life for all Islanders. The issues addressed in the Guide focus on Poverty, Reproductive Health, Caregiving, Paid and Unpaid Work, Child Care, and Justice.
The Advisory Council has asked the three party leaders to respond specifically to the questions in the Guide and will publicly release their responses before the election.
Every vote counts. It is important for all Islanders to remember that when talking with candidates, and expressing their voice through their vote, that equality for all people will make PEI a productive and caring community.
