Advisory Council Applauds Recent Appointment to the Senate

The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women congratulates Libbe Hubley on her appointment to the Senate of Canada. As a former MLA and Deputy Speaker in the Provincial Legislature, she will join Senator Catherine Callbeck and Senator Eileen Rossiter in her new role.

"Prime Minister Jean Chretien deserves high praise for his astute decision to appoint three women to these high profile positions," said Roy-Ballem. "This continues to address the gender inequality in the Senate."

With the current appointments, there are still only 32 of the 105 Senate seats filled by women. It is the hope of the Advisory Council that the Senate will someday truly reflect the gender representation in Canadian society as it should.
