Acting Deputy Minister Appointed

Premier Pat Binns today announced the appointment of Steve MacLean as Acting Deputy Minister of Transportation and Public Works. MacLean takes over from Tom Harland who has accepted a temporary assignment with the Department of Development and Technology.

Harland's temporary move to the Department of Development and Technology will see him assume the role of Executive Director of Special Projects. The department is currently in the process of assessing crown assets and Harland will lead that initiative.

"I am pleased Tom has agreed to take on this role. His government and private sector experience will lend itself nicely to this important assignment," said Binns.

MacLean, a professional engineer, has served with the Department since 1987, most recently as Director of Highway Maintenance.

"Steve has ample experience with the department and will make a solid interim Deputy Minister. This should be a seamless transition," noted the Premier.

Both appointments are effective immediately.
