April will see the return of PEI Burger Love, a month-long celebration of 100 per cent Island Beef. This is the fourth year of the campaign, and the “beefiest” one to date.
Prince Edward Island Burger Love was created by Fresh Media, and is presented in partnership with Prince Edward Island Cattle Producers, PEI Flavours and PEI Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
This year, there are 54 participating restaurants all cooking up incredible gourmet burgers with the hopes that their culinary creation will be crowned Prince Edward Island’s Most Loved Burger.
“The Island beef industry makes an important contribution to our economy and to economic activity in our rural communities,” said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry George Webster. “Government’s involvement with Burger Love reflects our commitment to a strong beef industry, a strong agriculture sector, and a strong Island community.”
Islanders are invited to be a part of this celebration by choosing a PEI Burger Love creation while dining at participating local restaurants across the Island. After they have
eaten the burger, they can then visit www.peiburgerlove.ca to “Rate Your Love” for
each burger.
It’s through these ratings that one restaurant has the chance to be crowned the 2014 home of “Prince Edward Island’s Most Loved Burger.” By voting, burger fans will also have a chance to win prizes including gift certificates from the participating restaurants, plus other promotional materials.
“Island beef producers are proud of what we do and we are thrilled to see this campaign grow year after year,” adds Ivan Johnson, Chair of the PEI Cattle Producers. “PEI Burger Love is the perfect way for local chefs to showcase their endless creativity using our Island Beef.”
With the star of each burger being Island Beef, hungry consumers can sink their teeth into unique gourmet burgers that may also include such culinary ingredients as pork, potatoes, eggs, kale, beet strings, coffee and even ice cream.
“Last year, we sold over 46,000 burgers through 31 restaurants in just one month, and there was over $580,000 in sales of burgers alone,” said Melody Dover of Fresh Media. “We think we may have the biggest non-franchise restaurant food campaign in Canada, and we invite the entire country to come dine with us.”
The full list of PEI Burger Love creations will be unveiled on April 1, and the campaign runs until April 30. For more information on PEI Burger Love, visit www.peiburgerlove.ca.
