"The $2.3 million expansion to Montague Intermediate School demonstrates government's ambitious school construction plan is working to give Island students the proper environment for learning and growing," said Premier Pat Binns today at the school's official opening ceremony.
The 23,000 square-foot expansion to Montague Intermediate School, consists of a new gymnasium and change rooms; multipurpose and music room; technology arts room; administration area; home economics room; computer lab; science room; library and seminar room, and an elevator. In addition, the existing 15 classrooms, staff lounge and office area were renovated to install a new ventilation system.
"The addition of new classrooms and state-of-the-art technology will increase the learning opportunities for Montague students," said Minister Gillan.
Premier Binns, Minister of Education Chester Gilllan, Minister of Transportation and Public Works Mike Currie, Montague-Kilmuir MLA Jim Bagnall, Eastern School District representatives, Montague Home and School, and Montague students, staff and parents participated in the ceremony.
Minister Gillan acknowledged the Montague Home and School, and the School Improvement Committee for their support in planning for the school expansion.
The project general contractor was MacLean Construction Ltd., and the architect was W.D. Lawrence Architecture Inc.
