2014 PEI Home Renovation Programs accepting applications

* Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]
Eligible low income Islanders, families, persons living with a disability or special need will be able to apply for assistance to the 2014 PEI Home Renovation Programs from June 16 to June 20, says Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors.

“The response was overwhelming when we first introduced this new program in the fall of 2013,” said Minister Docherty. “Through these new renovation programs, we were able to provide funding to 76 Prince Edward Island households in need.”

To ensure fairness to all applicants, only applications received after 8 a.m. on June 16, and applications that have all the required documentation will be processed. Applications will be approved based on the eligibility criteria which identifies the home repair need, and then on a first-come, first-served basis until the program budget is exhausted.

Three programs are available to assist eligible low income Islanders, families, persons with disabilities and persons with special needs with the cost of necessary repairs to their homes.

PEI Home Renovation Program

• To assist with the cost of repairs to heating, electrical, structural, plumbing or fire safety components of the home.

• Maximum forgivable loan: $12,000.

PEI Home Renovation Program for Persons with Disabilities

• To assist with home modifications to accommodate a disability.

• Maximum forgivable loan: $16,000.

PEI Emergency Home Repair Program

• To assist with home repairs to address a situation that is an imminent safety threat.

• Maximum forgivable loan: $6,000.

Incomplete applications will not be processed. Homeowners wishing to apply for the program must complete the application form and submit the following two supporting documents along with the form:

• The 2013 Notice of Assessment received from Canada Revenue Agency for each adult living in the household.

• Proof of an active home insurance policy which indicated the start and end date of the current home insurance policy.

Application forms can be picked up and dropped off at all Access Centres across PEI and at the main PEI Home Renovation Program office in the Sherwood Business Centre in Charlottetown.
