2006 Island Guide on the Stands and in the Mail

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
The 2006 Island Guide is ready for distribution and Tourism PEI Minister, Philip Brown checked out the newest edition as staff began mailing them out to an eager list of potential visitors.

This year, 300,000 copies of the very popular guide were printed and the province is more than happy to provide interested travellers with the newest publication. The informative 232-page magazine-styled guide outlines all the details required to plan an upcoming trip and the photographs of Prince Edward Island are enough to lure a traveller on their own.

“This year the guide has some new features,” noted Minister Brown. “We’ve added some local celebrities such as Mike Smith, host of the television series Chef at Home and Chef at Large, and Cassie Campbell, who plays with the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team, who describe their “Perfect PEI Day” detailing where they’d go and how much it would cost them. There are also new features throughout the guide on romance and weddings, camping and gardens. It’s informative and a great read, even for Islanders themselves.”

The updated version has incorporated images from a photographers’ shootout held last year as well as a clip-out ballot soliciting opinions from our readers. The results from “The Island’s Best” survey - everything from the best fish and chips or B&B/cottage to the favourite potato stand/market or scenic view - will be reported in the 2007 Island Guide.

The 2006 edition complements a new publication called “Island Escapes” which is the combined information from the coupon book and the value vacations packaging publication of previous years. In addition, the French-language version of the guide is in print this week with 110,000 copies for this year ready to head out the door, along with Island maps in both languages.

Minister Brown noted, “The Guide has a serious mandate to provide efficient information to travellers and it is also used as a marketing tool for the many properties across the Island. My staff takes great pride in the quality of the guide and the many other publications that are created in our offices through our collaboration with the Tourism Advisory Council.”

The guide is also provided on-line in both languages at www.gentleisland.com or www.douceurdelile.com.
