Museum and Heritage Prince Edward Island held its annual Heritage Awards Ceremony Monday, February 20, 2006,at Eptek Art and Culture Centre in Summerside. Museum Chair, Satadal Dasgupta, PhD, welcomed Lieutenant Governor His Honourable J. Leonce Bernard who presented the awards which recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to heritage on Prince Edward Island.
Categories of awards and recipients included:
Architectural Preservation: John Douglas for 55-57 Dorchester Street; Norray Properties for Dundas Esplanade; Greg and Louise Corbett for Craigmore; Don Cobb and Roy Haapala for Coffin House.
Activities: William Waddell; Randy Ross; Malpeque Historical Society; Lest We Forget Committee; the Guardian for Charlottetown 150th supplement; PEI Military Sites Inc. for Prince Edward Battery; Sterling Stratton for Places of Historic Interest; Three Rivers Roma Inc.
Writing: Olive Gaudet for Memories of Lifetime; George Wright for Who Departed This Life; Wayne MacKinnon for Between Two Cultures; Kevin Christy for Flue-Cured Tobacco; Reg Pendergast and Patricia Pendergast Stanyer for Trailblazer; Marion Bruce for Pets, Professors and Politicians; Honourable Marion Reid for These Roots Run Deep and David Weale for Whatever You Say.
In addition, Hedgerow was awarded the Wendell Boyle Award, Aggi-Rose Reddin the Mary Cornfoot Brehaut Award, the City of Summerside/Wyatt Heritage Properties the Irene Rogers Award and Paul H. Schurman the Award of Honour.
