1999 Provincial Heritage Fair Huge Success

* Education [to Apr 2008]
The 1999 Provincial Heritage Fair, held Thursday, May 13 at the Confederation Centre of the Arts was a huge success said Cletus Dunn, Fair Coordinator. Approximately 300 students from across the province in grades 5 to 9 exhibited a total of 172 displays. Over 1,500 students and members of the public visited the Fair to view the displays.

"The Provincial Heritage Fair keeps improving each year both in quality and quantity, thanks to the committed teachers and administrators who have made the Heritage Fair a priority in their school," said Dunn. "Moving the location of the Fair to the Confederation Centre of the Arts — a national heritage site — was also a step in the right direction."

The official ceremony was highlighted with comments from Lieutenant Governor, Honourable Gilbert Clements, Deputy Minister of Education Elaine Noonan, and David Olfinson, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, a Fair sponsor.

Finalists were chosen from each grade, and the concluding step of the process will be to select 15 students to attend the National Fair in Edmonton, Alberta in July.

He is confident the Fair will continue to grow and expand to more schools and an even greater number of students will participate in learning their heritage.
