The 1999 McDonald's PEI Challenge will take place at Brudenell August 26-29, 1999, bringing the prestigious Canadian Tour event back to Prince Edward Island.
The title sponsor, organizing committee, and numerous other sponsors and volunteers were on hand at the Brudenell Resort to announce a full schedule of events, including the Pro-Am Championship which will be held in conjunction with the McDonald's PEI Challenge.
"The generous corporate support of McDonald's Restaurants of Canada provides an opportunity for approximately 140 golfers to compete on the challenging and beautiful Brudenell River Golf Course," stated Organizing Committee Chairman, Steve Stewart.
Brudenell has played host to many national amateur and professional events enticing players of all levels and allowing spectators ample view of the game. Full-field Canadian Tour events have been held on Prince Edward Island from 1998 through 1993 and 1995 through 1997.
The Canadian Tour offers golf fans some of the best "up-and-coming" professional golfers from across Canada and around the world. One of the recent graduates is Canada's own Mike Weir who has been hitting the news with this year's PGA Tour and the lineup this year includes many players ready to make their mark in the golf scene.
Kevin J. MacAdam, Minister of Fisheries and Tourism noted, "Golf has proven itself a very dynamic industry on Prince Edward Island. We are building on a strong reputation as a top-notch golf destination and it is events such as this one that solidify our standing in the golf world." He added, "We are very pleased that the event is show casing here in Brudenell and I am sure that the golfers and the spectators will enjoy some great golf during the tournament."
Aside from the title sponsor, there are a number of major sponsors including Rodd Hotels and Resorts, Budget Rent-A-Car, Moosehead Light, Brudenell Resort Golf Academy, Tourism PEI and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. Island Tel will sponsor the Pro-Am Championship.
Tickets will be sold at various locations throughout Prince Edward Island through the P.E.I. Special Olympics, and 100% of the revenues of ticket sales will be donated to the charity on behalf of the Ronald McDonald Children's Charities of Canada (day-pass $5).
