December 30, 2014 Starting January 2, 2015, customers who appear to be 30 years of age or under will be asked for identification when making purchases at PEI Liquor corporate and liquor agency outlets. This is an update to the Check 25 program which has been in effect for a number of years and by increasing the age is meant to help ensure alcohol is being kept out of the hands of minors.“Unfortunately we continue to see people using falsified identification in attempts to buy alcohol,” noted Hon. Robert Henderson, Minister Responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “In the past fiscal year alone, staff challenged and refused almost 2,500 people who attempted to purchase alcohol without valid proof of age.” The new age threshold brings things in line with what is in place in Nova Scotia and will include both corporate retail and liquor agency outlets across the province.
