Pap screening service expanding across the province

Expanded pap screening services mean Island women will soon be able to access pap testing in more Island communities, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“We are committed to enhancing pap screening services by providing more timely access for women in communities closer to home,” said the minister. “An enhanced delivery model will allow us to offer pap clinics delivered by trained primary care nurses across the Island.”

Health PEI CEO Dr. Richard Wedge encourages Island women to schedule regular pap tests. Beginning immediately, women can call 1-888-561-2233 to arrange an appointment through a Health PEI program screening coordinator.

“Our goal is to improve screening rates by offering regularly scheduled clinics across the province,” said Dr. Wedge. “With new primary care infrastructure in place, we are increasing capacity to offer this important service to women in the province.”

Information on the clinics will be made available on the Health PEI website at healthpei.ca/papscreening.
