Increases to the lifetime grant for the Seniors Home Repair Program will give eligible Island seniors extra support to remain in their homes longer, says Minister of Community Services and Seniors, Valerie E. Docherty.
“Through the Social Action Plan we are able to make this important investment in our seniors,” said Minister Docherty. “I am pleased the new lifetime grant limit has been raised to $2,000. This extra support will help Island seniors remain in their homes as they age and maintain the dignity and independence they want and deserve.”
The lifetime grant increase is also available to previous recipients of the program. If individuals have already reached the current maximum ($1,500), they may now be eligible for the additional funding to help complete other necessary renovations.
The Seniors Home Repair Program provides assistance to low and moderate income seniors to make necessary repairs to their residence. As of November 1, 2014, qualified seniors will be able to apply for the additional funding.
The process for applying to the Seniors Home Repair Program has not changed. The additional grant funding can be applied to new projects; those projects that have already been completed do not qualify for this increase.
