Some Prince Edward Island Beef exhibitors recently competed at Expo Boeuf in Victoriaville, Quebec. Over 600 head of cattle were shown at the expo with Prince Edward Island Beef exhibitors taking home some of the top awards. Prince Edward Island exhibitors competed in the Simmental, Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn breeds.
MFS Junior was awarded Supreme Champion Male over all beef breeds. In the Simmental division, MFS Junior was also awarded Reserve Grand Champion Male. He is now eligible to compete in the Supreme Champion Class at the Canadian Western Agribition. MFS Junior was bred by Stephen and Jennie Mutch of Cornwall, and is owned by Randy Sanderson of York Point. The Simmental show had 120 entries and was judged by Brian McCarthy, of Saskatchewan.
In the Hereford division, the Boyd Dixon family of the Bannockburn Road in Cornwall took home some of the top prizes. They had the Champion and Reserve Champion Yearling heifers, fourth place in the cow calf class, fifth place in the yearling bull class, and captured third place out of fifteen breeders in the very competitive Breeders Herd class. The Hereford show had 120 entries and was judged by Lance Leachman of Saskatchewan.
In the Angus division, Ernie and Joanne Mutch of Earnscliffe came away with Grand Champion Female of the show with their cow JEM Classy Lady 22W. They also captured the Reserve Grand Champion bull with JEM Net Worth. They placed fourth overall in the heifer calf class, and first in the breeders herd. The Dixon family exhibited an Angus yearling heifer that stood second in its class. The Angus show had 100 entries, and was judged by Brent Stewart of Manitoba.
Marvin Peters of Springton also exhibited in the Shorthorn division with a bull calf.
