Last day for candidates to be nominated

The Chief Electoral Officer for the Municipalities of Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall would like to remind those who are interested in running for Mayor or Councillor in the Municipal Elections have until Friday, October 10 at 2 p.m. to file nominations papers with their Ward Returning Officer. An eligible candidate must be 18 years of age by Election Day, a Canadian citizen and have been ordinarily resident in the municipality for six months preceding the date of nomination.

Nomination papers for Mayor and Councillor may be picked up at the Ward Returning Officers Headquarters. All Charlottetown Returning Officers are located in the Sherwood Business Centre at 161 St. Peters Road (902-894-7591). The Summerside office is located at 335 Central Street (902-432-3507) and both Stratford (902-569-6922) and Cornwall (902-218-2236) are located in the Municipal Town Halls.

The door-to-door confirmation process to generate the list of electors is now over; however, if you were not home when the confirmation officers came to your door, you may still register by contacting the Ward Returning Officer. Voter registration ends Wednesday, October 15 to be on the List of Electors. After this date, you may still register to vote but it must be done at a polling station when you vote.

I encourage anyone interested in working with their community to consider offering their name as a candidate for these Municipal Elections.”
