The Chief Electoral Officer for the municipalities of Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall has issued a Writ of Election for Municipal elections to take place in these communities on Monday, November 3, 2014. To be eligible to vote a person must be 18 years of age by election day, a Canadian citizen and have been ordinarily resident in the municipality for six months preceding November 3, 2014.
Nomination papers for Mayor and Councillor may be picked up at the Ward Returning Officers Headquarters. All Charlottetown Returning Officers are located in the Sherwood Business Centre at 161 St. Peters Road. The Summerside office is located at 335 Central Street, and both Stratford and Cornwall are located in the Municipal Town Halls.
There will be a door-to-door confirmation process to generate the list of electors within these four communities, starting on Monday, September 29. Confirmation Officers will be wearing visible identification badges as they visit each residence to obtain names of eligible voters to develop a list of qualified electors. Documentation left at each residence will indicate their Ward and Poll and will contain information on the dates, times and locations of the advance polls as well as the ordinary polling day. Should a person be missed during the confirmation process, they can still be registered to vote by contacting the Returning Officer for their Ward. A complete list of Returning Officers and their phone number has been published in the daily newspapers and can also be found on the Elections PEI website.
The Chief Electoral Officer for Elections PEI, Mr. Gary McLeod, will oversee and coordinate the election on behalf of the Cities of Charlottetown and Summerside along with the Towns of Stratford and Cornwall.
