New Rocky Point Bridge to open to traffic

* Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]
The $375,000 replacement of the Rocky Point Bridge on Route 19 is complete and the bridge will open to the public at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 25, says Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Robert Vessey.

“Our government is committed to improving the safety and efficiency of Island roadways,” Minister Vessey said. “The department’s bridge inspection program ensures that areas of need are identified and replaced in a timely manner.”

Construction of the project began in June following a community information session in New Dominion. The original bridge was built in 1959.

One more bridge will be replaced in 2014-15 in Souris.
