Nurse practitioner will provide walk-in clinic in Morell

Health and Wellness
Residents of Morell will have improved access when nurse practitioner, Laurie Brehaut begins a walk-in clinic service on June 4, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“I’m very pleased that we were able to work in partnership with the community to bring this service to the residents of Morell and surrounding areas,” said the minister. “Government is committed to ensuring Islanders have access to the primary health care services they need as close to home as possible. I would also like to thank the Morell community for their hard work, dedication and collaboration on this initiative.”

The walk-in clinic will be held weekly at the Morell Village community office on Sunset Crescent. It will operate every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. beginning June 4, 2014.

Nurse practitioner, Laurie Brehaut is currently working collaboratively with Dr. Stacey Champion and Dr. Lana Beth Barkhouse in their respective family practices. She will continue working with these physicians in addition to providing the weekly walk-in clinics in Morell.

“The walk-in clinic is a great complement to the existing services offered in Morell,” said Marilyn Barrett, director of primary care networks and chronic disease, Health PEI. “It’s been a wonderful team effort between the Morell community members, government, and Health PEI to provide this valuable service for local residents.”

Islanders are reminded to visit a walk-in clinic in non-urgent medical situations. Anyone with urgent medical needs should call 9-1-1 or visit the nearest hospital emergency department. For a full list of clinic locations, visit www.healthpei.ca/walkinclinics.
