January 12, 1999 "Help the Environment - Don't Waste Energy" is the message from Grant MacAulay of Prince Edward Island on the 1999 Energy and the Environment calendar. Mitch Murphy, Minister of Technology and Environment has announced that Grant, a ten-year-old Fortune Consolidated School student, is the provincial winner of the annual poster contest. Each year the Department of Technology and Environment conducts a poster contest for Island students in grades one through six. One provincial winner is selected and their poster is submitted to Natural Resources Canada for inclusion in the Energy and the Environment calendar for the next year. "Grant's poster is well done and offered several strong environmental messages," said Mr. Murphy. "He obviously put a lot of thought into the content of his poster and then presented his messages in a clear and colourful manner." All provinces and territories in Canada are featured for one month in the calendar. Grant MacAulay's poster is featured for the month of October. "Grant has provided an excellent message from Prince Edward Island and I am sure all Islanders join me in congratulating Grant, his parents and his school for both his artistic abilities and his environmental awareness," said Minister Murphy. Grant MacAulay is the son of Dwain and Rena MacAulay of Souris West and was a student at Fortune Consolidated School last year when he submitted his poster. Copies of the 1999 Energy and the Environment calendar are available at all Regional Services Centres across the Island and at Island Information Service (368-4000). Media Contact: Lee Bartley
