Daniel Ficza of Honeydew Apiaries in Canoe Cove has received international recognition at the 2014 Mazer Cup International Mead Competition, the largest mead-only competition in the world.

Mead is an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, and frequently fruits, spices, grains or hops.

“The Golden Drop” mead which is produced, bottled and labeled on the Ficza farm won the silver medal in the Traditional Dry Mead category.

“The Province of Prince Edward Island is committed to our agriculture industry and our local producers who work hard to produce high quality goods for consumers around the world,” said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, George Webster. “On behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island, I would like to congratulate Mr. Ficza on this tremendous accomplishment.”
