January 13, 2014 * Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]In an effort to reduce damage to Island roadways during a period of anticipated warmer weather, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal will implement temporary weight restrictions beginning at 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, January 14.These restrictions reduce the maximum load allowed per axle for larger trucks, which helps preserve the province’s investment in Island highways as they become more vulnerable at warmer temperatures. Overweight permits will not be issued by the department during the restriction period, and tolerances will no longer be valid on all-weather highways. For other road users, milder weather can present new driving challenges. Therefore, drivers are asked to drive safely and watch out for frost heaves and pot holes. For the complete list of weight-limited roads, please visit www.gov.pe.ca/weightrestrictions.Media Contact: Brad Chatfield
