Drivers will encounter police safety checkpoints in several areas throughout the province next week as part of National Safe Driving Week December 2 to 6.
RCMP and local police agencies – along with the province’s Highway Safety Division – will be stopping vehicles throughout the week to check for safety violations such as illegal window tinting on the windshield or front windows; the presence of daytime running lights; expired driver licences or vehicle registrations; unlawful licence plate coverings; and impaired driving. Law enforcement personnel will use their discretion on whether or not to issue fines for any violations.
The checkpoints will be in the following areas:
• Monday, December 2 – Summerside area, with Summerside Police
• Tuesday, December 3 – West Prince, with RCMP
• Wednesday, December 4 – Charlottetown area, with Charlottetown Police
• Thursday, December 5 – Souris and Montague areas, with RCMP
• Friday, December 6 – Charlottetown, with RCMP
