Everyone is encouraged to participate in Prince Edward Island’s Intergeneration Week storytelling, poetry and song contest, says Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors.
“The Seniors’ Secretariat storytelling contest is a wonderful opportunity for Islanders to celebrate the contributions of people from varying generations,” said Minister Docherty. “We can all learn from both the experience and wisdom of adults and the creativity and energy of youth.”
Celebrate Intergeneration Week 2013 by submitting a story, poem or song that features characters from at least two different generations. Entries may be fiction or non-fiction and must portray positive images of both older and younger Islanders.
“Intergeneration Week is a great opportunity to celebrate people of diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences,” said Mary Hughes, Chair of the Seniors’ Secretariat. “The PEI Seniors’ Secretariat is pleased to recognize the contributions of people of all ages during this special week.”
The winner will receive $150; second prize is $100, and third place will earn the writer a gift certificate. Contest winners will be announced during Intergeneration Week October 21-27. The deadline for submissions is September 23, 2013. For further contest details phone 1-866-770-0588 or e-mail seniors@gov.pe.ca.
