Minister Currie congratulates Team PEI on successful Canada Games

Health and Wellness
Over the past two weeks at the 2013 Canada Games, Team PEI has demonstrated to the country the results of hard work and dedication, says Minister of Health and Wellness Doug Currie.

“The Games in Sherbrooke were a big success for our Island team with many personal bests achieved in the water, out in the field and on the court,” said Minister Currie. “Our athletes – along with our coaches, managers and mission staff – should be extremely proud of their performance.”

Team PEI was made up of 232 athletes; 59 coaches, managers and support staff; and 15 Mission Staff members for a total delegation of 306.

Team PEI came home with 2 medals – Hannah Taylor of Summerside and Lorena Ellis of Kingston each one silver medals in wrestling. In addition, many of the teams had their best finish ever at the national level, and several new provincial records were set.

“Prince Edward Island is extremely proud of Team PEI and their tremendous efforts at the Canada Games,” said Minister Currie. “Our athletes, coaches, and mission staff once again demonstrated great respect, sportsmanship, and Island pride during the two weeks of competition.”
