Restrictions and special precautions have been relaxed on Unit 3 at QEH

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is reporting no new cases of MRSA on Unit 3, and all special precautions and restrictions are being relaxed on the nursing unit.

With no new cases discovered in the last two and a half weeks, the QEH is able to relax the special procedures and precautions that have been in place on Unit 3 since July 2. QEH will continue to monitor the unit closely.

Visitors to the QEH are reminded that visitation policies that have been in place on Unit 3 are still enforced in all nursing units in the hospital, and include:

• Visits from immediate family members or close friends only where possible;

• Only two (2) visitors at one time per patient (including children);

• Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times;

• Visits should be kept brief (15 minutes); and

• Visitors must follow general visiting hours.

The visitation policies are in place to help prevent the spread of MRSA and other infectious diseases and are based on best practices for infection prevention control from across the country. Families and individuals visiting the hospital on a regular basis are advised to coordinate visits with other family members and close family friends to ensure that they follow hospital policies.

Anyone coming to the hospital, including visitors and persons coming in for tests, x-rays or ambulatory procedures is reminded to clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room, a department, and upon entering and leaving the facility. Alcohol hand-rinse stations are available throughout the building for this purpose.
