As Team PEI prepares to compete at the 2013 Canada Games, the Province of Prince Edward Island extends good luck and best wishes to all members of the team, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“Team PEI has been created through a lot of hard work and dedication, and the Province of Prince Edward Island is extremely proud of the team of exceptional individuals who will represent our province in Sherbrooke,” said Premier Ghiz. “No matter the outcome, we can be very proud of Team PEI’s efforts and their role as ambassadors for our province.”
“The Games offers our Island athletes a wonderful opportunity, not only for competition but for personal growth,” said Minister of Health and Wellness Doug Currie. “While participating in sport is a great way to stay physically fit, it also teaches important life skills such as leadership, commitment and teamwork that can be used in everyday life.”
The 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec is from August 2 to 17. Team PEI will be made up of 232 athletes; 59 coaches, managers and support staff; and 15 Mission Staff members for a total delegation of 306.
“Over the years, our province has seen great success at the Canada Games. Our athletes have won medals and have set personal bests. They have demonstrated leadership and pride in their province. We have seen many of our Island athletes reach sporting and personal success long after their participation in the Games,” said Premier Ghiz. “The Province of Prince Edward Island extends best wishes to Team PEI 2013. We will be cheering you on with pride!”
