Nominations invited for 2013 Senior Islanders of the Year

* Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]
Community groups, organizations and the public are encouraged to nominate senior citizens for the 2013 Prince Edward Island Senior Islanders of the Year Award, says Honourable Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors.

The annual awards recognize the significant contributions of Island seniors in volunteerism, artistic achievement, fundraising, community participation, career achievements, fitness/recreation and other activities.

The Prince Edward Island Senior Islanders of the Year Awards highlight the unique and varied role that Island seniors play in community and family life, said Minister Docherty. These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many contributions of older adults, and allow us to recognize leaders in our communities. I encourage everyone to consider nominating an older adult for this special recognition.

July 15 is the deadline for nominations. To be eligible for a Senior Islanders of the Year award, nominees must be:

• a current resident of Prince Edward Island

• 65 years of age or older, and

• willing to be nominated and agree to participate in award promotions.

Nominations will be reviewed by members of the Prince Edward Island Seniors' Secretariat. Nomination forms are available online at www.gov.pe.ca/sss or by calling 1 866 770 0588.
