Lab and X-ray will remain at Souris Hospital

Lab and X-ray services will continue to be offered at Souris Hospital, says Health PEI CEO, Richard Wedge.

“I want to clarify for the residents of Souris area and all Islanders that services such as lab, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory care and dialysis will continue to be available at Souris Hospital after the facility transitions and begins offering more extended care,” said Wedge. “There’s been some confusion in the public regarding which services will remain at the facility so I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify those important points.”

When Souris Hospital makes the transition and begins to deliver more extended care services, three beds will continue to be used for Souris area acute care patients. Another 14 beds will offer extended care to people from all regions, including Eastern Kings. These extended care services include restorative, respite, convalescent and palliative care. All other services at the hospital will remain.

“Having more extended care beds available will help free up some of our other acute care beds in the system for those who need that level of specialized care the most,” said Wedge. “We’re committed to continuing to offer safe, quality services to the community of Souris and surrounding areas while, at the same time, making the most effective use of resources and best meeting the health care needs of all Islanders.”
