Dr. Richard Wedge has been appointed CEO of Health PEI, said Dr. Donna Murnaghan, chair of the Health PEI Board of Directors.

“Dr. Wedge was the successful candidate among the many exceptional individuals who expressed interest in the position,” Murnaghan said. “He has guided our organization effectively as interim CEO for the past few months, and the board has complete confidence in his ability to lead us into the next phase of Heath PEI’s development with our new three-year strategic plan.”

A graduate of Dalhousie University medical school, Dr. Wedge practiced as a family physician at the Summerside Medical Centre until 1996. He has had successive medical administration roles in both the federal and provincial governments. He became Health PEI’s executive director of Medical Affairs in 2010 and assumed the role of interim CEO last fall.

“I am pleased with the announcement of Dr. Wedge as the new CEO for Health PEI,” said Minister of Health and Wellness Doug Currie. “I am confident in his abilities and look forward to a strong working relationship. Dr. Wedge’s extensive knowledge of our province’s health system will help us to continue to build a quality, integrated system that provides better access for all Islanders.”
