Take the Get go!-ing Winter Challenge

Health and Wellness
Take the Get go!-ing Winter Challenge to increase your weekly physical activity during the month of February, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“This Challenge is a fun and easy way for Islanders to engage in physical activity, which is a pillar of healthy living and personal wellness,” said Minister Currie. “By incorporating daily physical activity into our families’ lives, we are leading by example and teaching our children to make healthy choices. We need to take ownership of our own health, because the healthier we are as individual Islanders, the stronger we are as a province.”

The Get go!-ing Winter Challenge starts February 1. It is a free, four-week physical activity challenge to get Islanders moving. The Challenge is open to all Islanders; simply get a team of family, friends, co-workers, classmates or neighbours together and register online at www.gopei.ca . The challenge will run for the entire month of February; however, Islanders are encouraged to register early.

“Our go!PEI challenges make great workplace wellness initiatives. Families find the challenges keep everyone focused on a common healthy living message, and groups of friends, neighbours or classmates say they love the encouraging team atmosphere,” said Shani Gillespie, go!PEI provincial coordinator. “I have been hearing people say, ‘but it is too cold to be active in February,’ and that is the point of the challenge! We can help motivate participants to be more active this time of year than they usually are, indoors or outdoors, doing whatever activity suits them best.”

The goal is to have individuals start at their normal activity level and gradually increase the amount of time they are active. This challenge is open to all ages, children, adults and seniors.
