Premier congratulates Auditor General for 10 years of service

Premier's Office
After a decade of highly professional public service, Auditor General Colin Younker is retiring from his position.

“Over the years, Mr. Younker has distinguished himself as one of the most credible and reliable public servants in the Prince Edward Island government,” Premier Robert Ghiz said. “His diligence has helped government to improve its processes – and his work has served as an important check and balance.”

Mr. Younker’s accomplishments during his tenure as Auditor General include:

• He led the Office in addressing significant changes in assurance and accounting standards related to government business enterprises as well as other government organizations;

• He strengthened the independence of the Office through amendments to the Audit Act;

• He was honoured by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of PEI in 2011 with an award for distinguished service to the profession;

• His work has contributed to improvements in accountability and internal control within government;

• Through collaboration and discussion with Auditors General across the country, he has contributed to the development and enhancement of legislative audit practice.

Over the coming weeks, public advertisements will be placed to seek a replacement for Mr. Younker. Following a rigorous selection process, a successful candidate will need to be confirmed through a vote in the Legislative Assembly. Audit Director Jane MacAdam will serve on an interim basis until a permanent Auditor General is appointed.
