Joining Medbuy will help Health PEI achieve a sustainable health system

Becoming a member of the national group purchasing organization Medbuy is one of the strategies Health PEI is using to achieve a sustainable health care system for Islanders now and into the future, said Denise Lewis-Fleming, executive director of Financial Services for Health PEI.

“Health PEI has a budgeted savings target on hospital supplies of approximately $1.5 million,” Lewis-Fleming said. “Joining Medbuy is one of many efforts we are undertaking to achieve this goal and make the best possible use of our available resources, so we can maintain the quality and safety of the care we provide to Islanders.”

As a member of Medbuy’s pharmacy program, Health PEI and its facilities can use the company’s group purchasing arrangements to increase its buying power and achieve cost savings on products such as injectable, oral and topical medications used in our hospitals. It will explore other purchasing opportunities beyond pharmaceutical products as needs and feasibility permit.

Medbuy has helped Canadian health systems to save millions on the cost of health-care supplies and services since 1989. It began doing business in Atlantic Canada with Saint John Regional Hospital and now works with all of New Brunswick’s health-care facilities.
