Physician support has been secured to help with on-call shifts at Souris Hospital and to provide appointments for patients of the Eastern Kings Health Centre, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.
“We have worked diligently to get locum coverage for Souris and I’m extremely pleased that Dr. Martin Owen is seeing patients there now,” said Minister Currie. “Our government remains fully committed to providing health services to the residents of Souris and surrounding areas and in rural Prince Edward Island.”
In September, same-day appointments will be available at the Eastern Kings Health Centre and can be booked by calling 687-7033. Walk-in clinics will be offered on a limited schedule; please check the Health PEI website: healthpei.ca/walkinclinics.
Dr. Owen will provide locum support for the month of September, and Dr. Angela MacLaren will also provide some coverage throughout the month. Additionally, Dr. Lazowski has been secured to provide locum coverage for October and November.
A third full-time physician is planning to start seeing patients in November, in addition to the two full-time physicians – Dr. Paul Berrow and Dr. Ron Henbest – currently practicing in Souris.
Ambulatory services will continue upstairs at the Souris Hospital as scheduled.
