All Islanders are invited to participate in this year’s One Book One Island as friends, family and neighbours once again join together to read the same book, Burma Chronicles, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson.
“Following last year’s success of the first-ever One Book One Island initiative, I encourage all Islanders to join this Island-wide book club in reading Burma Chronicles,” said the minister. “One Book One Island is a fun way to promote literacy and create a province-wide discussion on reading.”
Written and illustrated by Guy Delisle, Burma Chronicles is a non-fiction graphic novel that details the author’s time living in Myanmar in 2005 with his wife, who was working with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), and their young child. The book was first published in French in 2007 and was translated and published in English in 2008.
Guy Delisle is an illustrator and author of graphic novels from Quebec who now lives in France. He has illustrated and written several travelogues, including Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City which won the won the Angoulême International Comics Festival Prize for Best Album in 2012.
Copies of Burma Chronicles will be available from all 26 library branches in a variety of formats, in both French and English.
“The Prince Edward Island Public Library Service is an important partner in promoting literacy in our province and creating a life-long love of reading among Islanders,” said the minister.
