Nine books by Island authors have been shortlisted for the 2012 Island Book Awards, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson.
“Prince Edward Island is home to talented authors whose writings explore and celebrate a wide breadth of topics,” said the minister. “Congratulations to each of the authors on the shortlist; I encourage all Islanders to discover and celebrate their works.”
An independent jury selected three authors from each category of fiction, non-fiction and poetry for the shortlist. A total of thirty-four publications were submitted for consideration of this year’s awards.
The 2012 Island Book Award shortlist includes:

Marian Bruce - Remembering Old Dan
John Eldon Green - Still Laughing, Afterthoughts of an Albany Boy
Jane Ledwell, Kevin Rice and Douglas Sobey - Elaine Harrison: I am an Island that Dreams
Fiction:
Patti Larson - Family Magic
Patti Larson - Run (The Haunted)
Dale McNevin - Treasures to Find
Poetry:

The Prince Edward Island Book Awards are held every two years and are open to authors, editors and book producers who reside in the province. In addition to a cash award, recipients receive a commemorative award handcrafted by Island artisan Susana Rutherford of Firehorse Studios. The pieces were inspired by lines from three Island poets: Lucy Maud Montgomery, Milton Acorn and Joseph Sherman.
The Island Book Awards will be presented during a public ceremony May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Beaconsfield Carriage House.
