Provincial French Celebrations begin with Acadian flag raising at Province House

Premier's Office
The Provincial French Celebrations are an opportunity to celebrate our rich Acadian heritage and the vitality of the French language on Prince Edward Island, said Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

“Prince Edward Island’s Acadian and Francophone community is an integral part of the social, cultural and economic fabric of our province,” said the Premier. “These celebrations recognize the contribution of the community to the Island as a whole.”

The theme for this year’s Provincial French Celebration is “Understanding builds a better future” and is linked to the national event Rendez-vous de la Francophonie for which Jessica Holmes of Royal Canadian Air Farce fame is a spokesperson.

Celebrations begin with the Acadian flag raising at Province House on March 9 and continue through to March 25. There will be school and community activities taking place across the province including intergenerational and outdoor family events, movie presentations and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur’s Banquet, among others.
