Islanders will soon get the chance to view a piece of Canadian history this month when the Paul Henderson Jersey Homecoming Tour visits Prince Edward Island, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“Paul Henderson is a Canadian icon and an inspiration to many Islanders who strive for excellence not only in sport but every day of their lives,” said the minister, who is responsible for Sport, Recreation and Healthy Living. “On behalf of Prince Edward Island, I would like to welcome the organizers of the tour to our province and I encourage Islanders to take part in this opportunity to view the Jersey Tour to learn more about this important event in Canadian sport history and to meet Paul Henderson who will be attending the event in Souris.”

The tour will stop in three Island communities:

• Souris, Thursday, November 17 at Eastern Kings Sportsplex, 4-8 p.m;

• Tignish, Friday, November 18 at Tignish Credit Union Arena, 4-8 p.m; and

• Charlottetown, Saturday, November 19 at Civic Centre, 1-5 p.m.

Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson will welcome the tour participants to the Island during a reception with participants from the Island’s hockey community.

“Many Islanders remember watching Paul Henderson score that iconic hockey goal in the 1972 Summit series – it is a moment that has truly become part of our Canadian identity,” said Minister Henderson.
