Fire Prevention Week Coming Up In October

The Hon. Wes MacAleer, Minister of Community Services, would like to remind residents of Prince Edward Island that the week of October 4 - 10, 1998, is "Fire Prevention Week."

Fire Prevention Week is a wonderful opportunity for fire departments to promote fire safety and prevention programs, and teach the general public how to react correctly in the event of a fire.

This year's theme, "fire drills - the great escape," is a great way for our fire departments to reinforce the importance of carrying out regular fire drills - at home and at the work place.

Fire Prevention Canada is providing the Fire Marshal's office with both the National Fire Protection Association and Fire Prevention Canada kits for distribution to the fire departments for use during Fire Prevention Week.

You will be hearing more about this in the coming weeks as fire departments across the province prepare their plans for fire prevention week. Everyone is urged to become involved in this theme, "fire drills - the great escape." Every household and workplace should prepare an evacuation plan and practise it on a regular basis.
