October 14, 2011 Premier's OfficeCommunity based organizations interested in coordinating events in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee are encouraged to apply for funding through the Department of Canadian Heritage’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee Community Celebrations initiative. “The Crown has always played an important role within our province and country,” said Lieutenant Governor H. Frank Lewis. “Diamond Jubilee celebrations will celebrate our relationship with the Crown, specifically Her Majesty, and allow our communities to honour fellow Islanders who have dedicated themselves to service much like our Queen.” “Our province has seen incredible growth and change over the past 60 years and our Diamond Jubilee celebrations will honour that,” said Premier Ghiz. “I encourage all communities to take part and I hope that all Islanders will participate in provincial celebrations throughout the upcoming year as well.” Applications are due to Canadian Heritage by October 31, 2011 for activities taking place between February 4, 2012 and August 31, 2012.
